I am excited again to have the amazing Darcy back sharing all the greatest knowledge in nutrition! She has been a Registered Dietitian for 10 years, has a Masters in Medical Nutrition Therapy and tons of experience in the industry. We are so lucky to have Darcy as our current Practice Manager at Racquel Aesthetics! She doesn’t currently practice in nutrition, but truly finds passion in sharing her knowledge with as many as possible!! Take it away Darcy!
Last month we hit on the Sugar Overload that is hitting all of us.
So the question remains…. Are carbs bad?
Then we ask, but are fats bad?
The simple answer is no to both. Neither are good nor bad…it’s more about how much of them and what kind you are having.
Carbs and fats are fuels for our body to function at its best. Not just for energy to live, focus, but also to create new cells, create hormones, and to function our best.
We know from last month that being over loaded with sugar is not the best – we want to choose our carbs to be the most nutritious they can be.
Breads, pastas beans, veggies, and fruits, etc. These are all amazing and should be balanced into a normal day.
The same goes for fats, we need them, the “better kind”. These come from plants like nuts and seeds and then from animal sources like eggs and meat, and dairy. We also get these from oils like olive oil, avocado oil, etc. We want to stick with these fats as they have more Omega-3’s and anti-inflammatory properties within them vs the more highly processed ones.
I like to encourage people to steer clear of things that say “low-carb” “low-fat” because chances are they have just put more sugar or more fat in there to give it flavor and these are likely more processed.
When choosing carbs/fats, each meal should have some of both. But the majority should be the one that makes you feel the best.
Sometimes it is easier to get more fat during the winter since fruits and veggies typically are not in season and we want heartier/warmer foods. Then summer comes and it’s easier to get more carbs with fresh produce.
It is alright to be flexible and to enjoy different foods. Having a solid foundation in getting protein with each meal, you can build your plate how you want it, with what tastes good.
bread trends
With the trend of making your own bread at home, especially sourdough, I wanted to share an easier version of homemade bread. I know that not everyone has time to tend to the task of sourdough.
This recipe is easy and one of my favorites! The Best (easiest) No Knead Bread. – Half Baked Harvest
Carbs are great, especially paired with some butter and a protein 🙂

ENJOY!!
