Let’s face it, there is a stigma against male self-care. Most men find themselves completely clueless about all things injectables and skincare simply because the market is not tailored towards them, not because it isn’t for them.
What Botox Is & How it Works
One of our greatest anti-aging tools is neurotoxin, most commonly known by the brand names: Botox and Dysport. These are injectable medications that relax muscular contraction. The repeated contraction of muscles, in combination with age-related loss of collagen, creates fine lines and eventually deep set wrinkles that remain visible at rest. By relaxing specific facial muscles, we are able to prevent deep wrinkles from forming and soften existing wrinkles, producing a natural, rejuvenated result.
Neurotoxin works to relax facial muscles by preventing the signaling between muscles and nerves. It takes about 2 weeks for the neurotoxin to take effect. At this time, you will see the maximum impact of the medication. Around the 6-8 week mark, the neurotoxin begins to wear off and muscles begin to regain their strength. At 3 months post-treatment, full movement will return and you will be due for another treatment.
How Botox works specifically for Men
Neurotoxin treatments can be tailored specifically for men to meet their aesthetic needs. As seasoned injectors, we recognized that the ideal result for men varies widely from that of women. Rather than seeking an arched brow and a completely smooth forehead, most men desire subtle softening. It is also important to note that male facial musculature tends to be much stronger than that of females, meaning higher doses are needed to achieve desired results.
Common treatment areas for men are the 11s for the frown lines between the eyebrows, the forehead for horizontal lines in the upper face, and the crow’s feet where men tend to be particularly strong. With consistent treatments every 3 months, static lines will dramatically soften, resulting in smooth, youthful skin.
