I’ve seen firsthand how summer can throw people off their skincare game. Between travel, heat, humidity, and sun exposure, it’s easy to feel unsure about what’s safe or even worth sticking with during the warmer months. But here’s the truth: your skin doesn’t need a seasonal sabbatical. In fact, summer can be an ideal time to protect your progress and maintain your glow if you approach it the right way.
Summer always raises a few questions: What treatments should I d0? Should I stop my skincare routine while on vacation? I get asked this a lot and the truth is, with the right approach, you can absolutely keep up with your aesthetic treatments and skincare routine without sabotaging your results in the summer. Let’s dive into the summer do’s and don’ts I live by—from products, to treatments, and everything in between.
DON’T: Skip Your Skincare & Treatment Routine
Summer is not the time to ghost your skincare regimen. I see it all the time – people putting their skincare routines and treatments on hold during the summer. In reality, it’s an ideal time to maintain your regimen. Taking a break can actually set you back, making it harder to bounce back in the fall and winter. If you have questions about your current skincare routine or would like a routine for the summer, check in with your provider or take our skin quiz!
DO: Tailor Your Routine to the Season
Instead, you want to tailor your routine to fit the season. Just like we swap out sweaters for swimsuits, your skincare should transition too. So, consider switching to a lighter serum and moisturizer in the summer, while we suggest a heavier moisturizer during the winter months. My favorite is RFA Light Lotion. Just like it’s name, it’s lightweight yet nourishing with antioxidant protection from free-radical damage while preventing moisture loss. The best part? It’s packed with essential vitamins, CoQ10, Green Tea, and Aloe to soothe and hydrate your skin.
DO: Prioritize Daily SPF!
If there’s one non-negotiable in my summer routine, it’s sunscreen! Daily sun protection is everything—not just for preventing sunburns, but for maintaining your overall skin health.SPF shields against harmful UV rays that can cause premature aging, sun damage, and an increased risk of skin cancer. Even when it’s cloudy, wear your SPF! In this blog, I break down all of our different types of sunscreens to help you make the best choices this summer! SPF: Sun Protection Factor
DON’T: Forget to Reapply Your SPF
Another common mistake is neglecting to reapply SPF. If you are outside, aim to reapply every 2 hours. Our Powder Protect SPF 30 makes for effortless sun protection on the go! Toss it in your purse, beach bag, or car. Powder Protect is 100% mineral, soft and lightweight sunscreen formula that provides complete facial sun protection with an easy-to-apply brush application. The translucent powder helps blur imperfections, revealing a more even, healthy looking skin tone. Wearing makeup? Oily skin from being outside? This SPF will be your best friend! Brush it on top of your makeup for continued protection all day long!
DON’T: Rush Back into Certain Skin Treatments After A Beach Getaway
Vacations, especially to sunny destinations, take a toll on your skin. We recommend waiting at least two weeks after a tropical vacation before undergoing skin treatments such as lasers, facials, chemical peels, or microneedling. This allows your skin time to recover from sun exposure and return to a more stable baseline, reducing the risk of irritation or complication

DO: Choose Summer Friendly Treatments
Not all treatments are off limits during the summer! It’s all about choosing wisely. During the summer months, I recommend microneedling. It is amazing for addressing concerns with texture, scars, and hyperpigmentation with less sun-related risk.
Don’t forget injectables, which are safe and effective year round. Paired with a solid skincare routine, for glowing, smooth, and supported skin all summer long.
DON’T: Forget to Hydrate from the Inside Out
When the weather is warmer, it’s easy to get dehydrated. When we sweat more, we lose essential electrolytes. When we are not properly replenishing these nutrients, it leaves our bodies and skin dehydrated. I boost my hydration by adding in electrolytes to my water daily. These hydration sticks are quick, easy, and taste great! The Strawberry flavor is so refreshing!
If you are visiting us for a treatment this summer, maximize your time with our RA Signature Wellness IV. This IV Drip infuses a liter of fluids with essential vitamins, nutrients, minerals and amino acids that our bodies need to feel revitalized.
At the end of the day, your skincare routine and treatment plan don’t have to hit the back burner just because the weather’s heating up. I hope these summer do’s and don’ts helped you feel more confident about caring for your skin this season. A few smart shifts can make all the difference.
