Hi Everyone!
I am excited to be back as a guest writer on Racquel’s blog! You may remember me from last time talking about everything laser hair removal, but today I am back discussing a topic that is very near and dear to my heart – IPL/BBL! BBL is actually one of my very favorite treatments and probably the one that I am most known for given my history of experience and consistent results. At Racquel Aesthetics, we are taking things to the next level by pairing it with my new favorite treatment, Moxi!
Just to re-introduce myself to everyone, my name is Emily Altman, and I am a Laser and Skincare Specialist. I have worked with Racquel for the past 5 years at Nayak Plastic Surgery. Prior to that, I worked in Chicago as a Laser Specialist and MA. I am so thrilled to be joining her at her new business Racquel Aesthetics! Racquel is seriously changing lives and I am so honored and proud to be a part of her beautiful new med spa and the amazing team she has assembled.
I specialize in:
- IPL/BBL
- Laser Resurfacing
- Removing vascular irregularities like rosacea, broken capillaries and diffused redness and Post-Inflammatory Erythema
- Microneedling with PRP or Exosomes
- PRP for hair shedding
- Writing comprehensive skin care plans for every skin type and condition.
I love what I do and I am definitely results-driven and dedicated to my patients and their goals. My objective is always to make people look and feel more beautiful about themselves!
BBL

Today I am expanding on the virtues of one of my favorite treatments that I believe is a great treatment for the price point – BBL. BBL, also known as Broad Band Light, is a category of IPL, that is considered to be the world’s most powerful IPL device on the market because:
- It is extremely customizable to address a multitude of skin conditions in one single treatment
- BBL is precisely engineered to treat the area uniformly producing no hot or cold spots which results in perfectly safe and consistent treatments
- The Finesse Adapters allow treatment of hard-to-reach areas and different anatomical structures.
BBL is the gold-standard for treating sun damage, hyperpigmentation, photo-aging and solar lentigos. The light bypasses the top layer of the skin and reaches into the dermis where pigment is produced and breaks up the pigment. That broken pigment rises to the surface in the form of “coffee grounds” or “pepper-like flakes.” This pigment will slough off or exfoliate off in approximately 7-10 days and then you will be left with a smoother, brighter, more even-toned complexion. BBL also stimulates collagen production because it targets the dermal layer. It also helps the overall health of the skin and has been proven to show that regular BBL treatments reverse the signs of aging. Skin looks more vibrant and radiant. BBL can be used on all areas of the body. We regularly treat the face, neck, chest, full arms, full legs, back and shoulders.
BBL is a fast, effective and comfortable treatment that has low downtime but extremely high pay-off. We recommend an initial series of 3 treatments for optimal results spaced 3 weeks apart and then maintenance treatments of 3/year with a good skincare regimen.
MOXI

My new favorite laser treatment is Moxi. Moxi is the newest fractionated laser that helps with tone, texture, tightening and brightening. It’s customizable treatments deliver overall fresher, more vibrant looking skin without the downtime. The treatment is extremely customizable for patients that are looking for pre rejuvenation or want to revitalize the skin’s appearance.
Moxi is beneficial for:
- Treating Melasma
- Improving Tone and Texture
- Removing Fine Lines and Wrinkles
- Pre Rejuvenation – Younger patients looking to prevent sun spots, wrinkles and skin sagging
Designed to treat any skin type, at all times of the year, Moxi is an ideal treatment for regular skin maintenance to keep your skin looking flawless to promote new cell growth without the downtime of other associated lasers.
MENDs (Microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) will appear on the skin on the 2nd day as tiny dark spots with a bronzed appearance to the treated skin. MENDs are part of the healing process where treated tissue is working its way out of your body as new fresh skin is regenerated. During this time, your skin will be dry and feel like sandpaper. This will last approximately two days and then your skin will go back to normal.
BBL+MOXI
Not since microneedling with radio frequency, has there since been such a results-driven combination. These two high-powered lasers work synergistically to erase sun damage, hyperpigmentation and photoaging along with treating texture, tone, pore size, tightening and brightening the skin.
Regular BBL treatments literally stop genetic coding and allow your skin to remain more youthful, even though you are physically aging. Both Moxi and BBL are extremely customizable and allow the provider to adjust the depths and energy levels of each treatment. Together these two lasers pack a symbiotic punch of skin renewal and radiance with ease.
With little to no downtime, this laser combination is a powerful, robust and proven combination that will transform and renew your skin!
What to Know Before Your Treatment

Before treatment with either laser, you cannot have a tan, have any self-tanner on, and cannot be on antibiotics within the last week. Antibiotics are photosensitizing and can affect the outcome of your treatment. You are fine to continue to use retinols and acids up until the night before treatment. We advise that you come in without make-up, perfumes or lotions as the skin needs to be clean before treatment.
