Meghan, take it away!
A New Perspective on Health
The year 2020 and those that followed were unforgettable for all of us. I remember wondering whether life would ever return to “normal.” People couldn’t see their physicians or providers for routine medical care or even life-saving procedures. Unless it was an emergency requiring hospitalization, you were essentially on your own. And even then, hospitals were overwhelmed, with emergency departments frequently on blackout status, unable to provide even basic care.
After everything we experienced, one thing we all share is a deep appreciation for health. When a couple is expecting a baby, the common question is, “Do you want a boy or a girl?” But the real answer is always the same—they just want a healthy baby. We want the same for our spouses, parents, siblings, grandparents, and of course ourselves.
But what does it truly mean to be healthy? And how do we measure it? That’s where longevity comes in.
What is Longevity Medicine?
The term longevity encompasses preventive, regenerative, and precision medicine to slow the aging process, optimize metabolic and hormonal health, and reduce the risk of age-related diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, neurodegeneration, and osteoporosis.
At Racquel Aesthetics & Wellness, our goal of longevity medicine is not only to extend lifespan but to enhance vitality, cognitive function, and overall well-being.
The Power of a Longevity Panel
As a Wellness member, one of the many resources available to you is the advanced assessment of your individual longevity. The Boston Heart Diagnostics Panel provides a comprehensive evaluation of key factors, including advanced cholesterol markers, inflammation levels, genetic risk factors, and insulin resistance. This thorough analysis allows your Wellness Nurse Practitioner to gain a clear understanding of your heart disease risk, metabolic health, and genotyping, enabling personalized care.
What’s Included in the Longevity Panel?
- Lipid Panel: Measures your total cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol, HDL (good) cholesterol, and triglycerides to evaluate your heart health.
- Apolipoproteins: This includes ApoB and ApoA1, which help us understand the number and size of lipid particles in your blood, giving us a clearer picture of your cardiovascular risk.
- Lipoprotein(a): This is an independent risk factor for heart disease that we’ll assess to better understand your overall risk.
- High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP): This test looks for inflammation in the body, which is linked to heart disease.
- NT-proBNP: A marker that helps us assess your heart function and overall cardiovascular risk.
- Hemoglobin A1c: This test checks your long-term blood sugar control, helping us assess your risk for diabetes.
- Insulin Resistance Markers: We measure fasting insulin levels and use HOMA-IR to determine how your body responds to insulin and your risk for metabolic issues.
- Genetic Markers: We look at your ApoE gene to assess your long-term risk for heart disease, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease.
- Advanced Lipid Testing: This includes assessing LDL particle number, HDL subfractions, and other markers to better understand your cholesterol profile and cardiovascular health.
- Omega Fatty Acid Balance Test: We measure levels of key omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in the blood for cardiovascular health and risk assessment
- Omega-6 to Omega-3 Ratio: Lower ratios indicate a more favorable cardiovascular profile and reduced risk, higher ration are associated with inflammation and cardiovascular disorders
Is This Testing Right For You?
If you’re wondering whether this test is right for you, the answer is yes! It’s ideal for anyone interested in preventative medicine or with a family history of hypertension, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, vascular disease, pre-diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, and more. Additionally, if you’re focused on weight loss or weight management, this testing offers a comprehensive approach to help us better understand and achieve your health goals.
Ultimately, longevity is more than just a term or a trendy buzzword in the ever-growing field of functional medicine. It only holds meaning and power when you embrace it and integrate it into your daily life. We’re here to help you unlock your healthiest and longest life!
At Racquel Aesthetics & Wellness, we would love to help you do just that!
