I am so excited to welcome the amazing, Jasmine Henderson, RN back to the blog this week as a guest writer. Jasmine is an experienced board certified Aesthetic Nurse Injector. She is truly an expert in all things aesthetics, specializing in injectables and customized skincare plans. She has over 20 years of experience in the aesthetic industry. She’s an absolute sweetheart, beyond talented and builds amazing relationships with her patients. We are so lucky to have Jasmine as a part of our team at Racquel Aesthetics! She is excited to share about one of our favorite treatments at RA this week, Sculptra! Take it away, Jasmine!
It is no secret that Scluptra is a game changer in our industry and the gold standard for collagen stimulation. At Racquel Aesthetics, Sculptra is one of our favorite tools in our toolbox to take results to the next level. Let’s revisit this incredible injectable!
Sculptra is an injectable made of PLLA. Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) is a medicine targeting fibroblasts in your skin, stimulating collagen production. I like to use the analogy of “fertilizer for our skin” to describe Scultpra. As it is growing new collagen it then “thickens” and smooths the outer layer of the skin.
Sculptra does so much more than stimulate collagen production, and the key to its success are explained through the different “skin genes” that have been measured in numerous studies, proving its effectiveness.
Recently, research has uncovered even more benefits about this industry leading injectable.
Let’s Talk SKin Genetics
There are 107 genes that play an important role in skin biology. The key to perfect skin lies within unlocking these genes with Sculptra. This improves the quality with visual results, such as stimulating collagen production, decreasing hyperpigmentation or increasing water retention.
Let’s dive into some of the most important skin genes and how Sculptra is able to maximize their benefit. Science lesson starting now! ☺️
ELN
ELN encodes tropoelastin. Tropoelastin proteins attach to one another to form a mature elastin. Elastin is the major component of elastic fibers in the skin supporting connective tissue. In simple terms, ELN produces more elastin. You will notice an improvement in skin texture and tone, and a visible improvement in elasticity.
MMP10
Type 1 collagen that is proven to produce less inflammation when activated.
DKKI
Regulates skin pigmentation and thickness by affecting Wnt/beta-catenin signaling in keratinocytes. You will notice thicker, more radiant even toned skin by improving this gene with Sculptra.
MT1A – Metallothionein – 1A
Acts as an antioxidant. Increased antioxidants means less free radicals which means more beautiful skin.
HGF
Hepatocyte growth factor regulates cell growth and cell motility. We want fast and strong cells working hard to revitalize our skin.
The most fascinating discovery through this research is how Sculptra stimulates more ECM components, inducing less inflammatory markers, thus creating LESS inflammation than competing biostimulators on the market. This is important because more inflammation is going to potentially lead to more complications or an undesirable result.
The studies show gene stimulation and a noticeable difference as early as 3 months. This is important to note as Sculptra does take time, but as you can see from the research, the results are definitely worth the wait!!

What DOes All This Mean FOr Me?
Sculptra will not only be amazing for stimulating collagen, but you also are going to have increased antioxidant protection, a more even skin tone and stronger, more glowing skin! It really is such an incredible product and we can’t wait for you to experience it.
If you’re wondering if you’re a candidate for Sculptra, please email me with questions as I would love to make a plan for you and/or answer any Sculptra questions!
