Makeup After Injectables

At Racquel Aesthetics, you know we are beyond passionate about making women (and men) feel their absolute best! We believe that when you are feeling your very best, you carry that mentality into all aspects of your life. We are honored to be a part of that journey for so many! Our highly educated and skilled team of nurses and nurse practitioners are true artists when it comes to providing incredible, natural transformations with injectables. At RA, we have a variety of tools to aid in preventing bruises after injectables, including our Mindray Ultrasound & AccuVein Finder. These 2 devices are incredible, take a peak at other unique safe practices that Racquel Aesthetics provides here! We love that we can help avoid bruising whenever possible. It doesn’t mean you won’t bruise, but absolutely helps lower the risk! Because we focus on patient safety and optimal outcomes at RA, we prefer patients to avoid makeup for 12-24 hours after injections for best practice infection prevention.

So, let’s say you experience a small bruise after your injectable treatment. Well, fear not, we have got you covered! We offer laser treatments for post injection bruising to help minimize the bruise and help reduce healing time.

Now, I want to welcome our amazing, Madi Mergel to the blog this week to talk all things makeup and injectables. Madi is one of our talented and caring medical assistants at RA. She is passionate about aesthetics and loves all things beauty and makeup. I wish I had her skill when it comes to makeup, her makeup is always spot on!

Take it away, Madi!

Covering Bruises after your injectables

As our wonderful injectors always emphasize during your injectable appointment, bruising and swelling are always a possibility when getting Botox and/or filler. While we always hope this doesn’t happen, there are so many different factors that go into the probability of bruising. The truth is, our faces are so vascular that we are bound to bruise from our injections at some point. So if you happen to get a pesky bruise from your injections, but still want to enjoy a night out without worrying about it, you are in the right place! I’m here to give you some tips and tricks on how you can use makeup to mask the appearance of bruising, while still looking natural and fresh!

Color Correction

This is one of the most effective ways to cover a bruise! The key is to know which colors to use in order to cancel out the color of your bruise. New bruises are typically purplish/redish in tone, and are best canceled out with the color green, or sometimes yellow. This sounds intimidating, but hear me out! When we want to cancel out a color, we look at the color wheel and find the color we want to disguise. Then, we look to the opposite side of the color wheel to find which color will best cancel it out. In this case, green will cancel out any red tones, and yellow will cancel out any purple tones. Older bruises tend to be greenish/yellowish in tone, and are typically easier to cover with your everyday concealer! However, if you find you are wanting to airbrush them right away, any peach color corrector should do the trick! If your bruise is very green, you could even use a red lipstick as your corrector! With color correction, you always want to put your corrector on first, then layer your concealer over top to mask the color.

Here are a few color correctors I love!

The Bobbi Brown and Tarte color correctors come in a variety of colors.

As I mentioned, after you apply your color corrector you want to make sure you are applying a light layer of your normal everyday concealer on top and setting with powder. This will help balance out the harshness from the color corrector. Settling with a loose setting powder will help ensure your coverage lasts all day. Some of my favorites are Laura Mercier translucent setting powder, and the Hourglass mineral veil loose powder.

I hope this helps you feel more confident if you ever experience bruising from your injections! If you ever have any questions about covering bruises, or even just need some help with your everyday makeup routine, I am more than happy to help!
