At Racquel Aesthetics & Wellness, one thing we are always talking about is getting to the root cause. Whether it’s skin concerns, inflammation, fatigue, bloating, or overall wellness, I truly believe that you cannot fully heal or optimize the body if you are only treating symptoms on the surface.
That’s exactly why GI Map testing has become such an important part of our wellness program. I was honestly so excited to “nerd out” and do the GI Map myself this past year because I always want to fully understand what our patients experience firsthand. I never want to recommend something I haven’t personally walked through myself. But beyond that, I also had some concerns of my own that I wanted answers to.
I had bloating, irregularity, certain foods making me feel uncomfortable, and I just kept thinking… why? Even though I considered myself healthy overall, I wanted to know if there were ways I could optimize my health and feel even better.
That’s really what wellness is all about to me. It’s not about perfection or waiting until something is seriously wrong. It’s about understanding your body on a deeper level and getting in front of issues before they become bigger problems.
What Is a GI Map?
A GI Map is an advanced stool test that gives us a deep look into what’s happening inside the gut. Most people have heard the phrase “the gut is your second brain,” and honestly, that couldn’t be more true. Your gut impacts so many systems throughout the body, including:
- Skin health
- Inflammation
- Energy levels
- Digestion
- Immune function
- Hormones
- Mood
- Food sensitivities
- Overall wellness
We especially love using GI Map testing for patients dealing with inflammatory skin conditions like acne or rosacea because so often there is something deeper going on internally. We can do all the lasers, facials, skincare products, and treatments in the world, but if there is inflammation happening internally and we never address the root cause, we are missing a huge piece of the puzzle and the GI Map helps us connect those dots.
My Personal Experience
The process itself was incredibly easy. I met with one of our Wellness Nurse Practitioners for a consultation, took the testing kit home, completed it privately, and mailed it to the lab. Once the results came back, my wellness provider reviewed everything with me and created a personalized treatment plan based on exactly what my body needed.
And honestly… my results showed more than we expected. We discovered bacterial overgrowth, inflammation, and imbalances in my gut that were likely contributing to the symptoms I had been experiencing. From there I was provided a protocol with supplements, probiotics, digestive enzymes, and peptides. Everything was laid out in a super simple, easy-to-follow plan.
I committed to it fully for about six weeks, and I can genuinely say I started noticing improvements within just a few weeks.
I had less bloating, better digestion, less irritation and more energy. One of the biggest things I gained from this experience was awareness. I learned more about how certain foods affect my body, what supplements I actually need, and how important it is to stop blindly guessing when it comes to health.
It also gave me peace of mind. You’d honestly be surprised what can show up on GI testing, especially for people who travel frequently, eat a lot of raw fish, have exposure to animals, or simply have underlying gut dysfunction they don’t know about. Sometimes patients are shocked by what they discover. Knowledge truly is power.
Who Should Consider GI Map Testing?
I think people often assume they need to be “really sick” to look into something like this, but honestly, that’s not true at all.
GI Map testing can be incredibly beneficial for people experiencing things like bloating, indigestion, irregular bowel movements, food sensitivities, fatigue, brain fog, or general digestive discomfort. It can also be helpful for those struggling with chronic inflammation, acne, rosacea, or skin conditions that just do not seem to improve no matter what they try. And honestly, even if you feel relatively healthy overall, like I did, it is still such a valuable tool for anyone who simply wants to take a deeper look at how your body is functioning and where there may be opportunities to improve your overall wellness.
Doing the GI Map personally was honestly eye-opening for me. It reminded me that feeling “fine” and feeling your absolute best are not always the same thing.
Sometimes the answers are deeper. Sometimes your skin is trying to tell you something. Sometimes your gut is asking for support. And when we stop guessing and start truly understanding the body, that is when real healing can begin.
One of my favorite parts of this experience was simply gaining more awareness about my own body, understanding what it needed, and having a personalized plan that was actually built for me. I think so many people struggle with symptoms for years without ever really getting answers, and this is such an incredible tool to help connect those dots.
If you have been dealing with gut issues, skin concerns, inflammation, or you simply want to take a deeper look into your overall health and wellness, we would absolutely love to help guide you.
