I have been using Coolsculpting in my practice for about 8 years now and I can honestly say this is the most “high-satisfaction” body contouring treatment that I have ever offered! But they are hundreds of devices and creams and wraps and tools that promise the same ‘fat slimming’ effect so how is Coolsculpting different? Well for one, it really works. It’s a proven science!
What is Coolsculpting?
Coolsculpting is a non-surgical, no-downtime, body contouring device that is used to reduce and remove stubborn fat from the body. It is an excellent alternative to liposuction and acts just the same in the sense that once the fat is gone – its gone forever! Coolsculpting can be used to eliminate stubborn fat all over the body such as the upper or lower abdomen, flanks (love handles), bra rolls, back fat, arms, or inner/outer thighs to name a few of the more popular treatment areas.
One of the biggest perks of Coolsculpting is that there is zero downtime. Yep, that’s right – no time off work or out of the gym whatsoever. After your treatment you will definitely be a little sore and bloated for a few days, but nothing that will get in the way of daily life. This is a great treatment for busy people who cannot afford the downtime of liposuction.
How does Coolsculpting work?
Coolsculpting uses a “cooling” technology that initiates Cryolipolysis which means freezing fat cells. This incredibly low temperature damages the fat cells to the point of no return, they die! When a fat cell reaches a certain cool temperature that cell reaches a threshold in which it can no longer survive. The fat cell then crystalizes and dies off. The body will breaks down the dead fat cell and just like any other waste, it is eliminated from the body slowly over a few weeks time.
Coolsculpting requires a series of two treatments. We start by treating the desired area which takes about 30-45 minutes per area. Then, we wait one month and we treat again. After the second treatment it takes about 4 weeks to really start seeing those results and then at about 10-12 weeks post treatment you will be sitting at your final result. It is a slow gradual process as your body eliminates the fat so it’s important to be patient! I mean, you didn’t get the fat cells over night! They took weeks or months or years to build up so they won’t vanish overnight whether you start a diet or have a coolsculpting treatment!
I love seeing patients back at that 12 week mark for after photos because they always come in to the office super happy saying they see results, but when I show them their B&A side by side they are BLOWN AWAY. Because it is a gradual process they almost forget where they started at baseline so seeing the change is really cool.
Why would someone need Coolsculpting?
The most ideal candidate for coolsculpting are those who are at or about 10-15 lbs from their goal weight. This treatment is designed for people who are in relatively good physical shape but just have stubborn fat in certain areas that doesn’t seem to budge. This isn’t ideal or geared for overweight people who need total body fat loss all over, rather those who have a certain priority area that they want to tackle. For many, in order to reach an area of stubborn fat like the lower abdomen for example, it means following an unsustainable diet and even then sometimes that fat can’t be reached. This treatment allows us to specifically target that area of the body. Targeted fat loss is something that no exercise can do! So you could do a million pushups and you still might hold fat over your abs.
Like I always say, there is nothing wrong with doing something that makes you feel great! I know so many people who eat healthy and work out yet struggle with stubborn fat and I love that there is a solution and that can help. And it’s tested and true for me! I tried coolsculpting the day we got the machine about 8 years ago and my results have been long-lasting and totally worth it (even after all the babies and weight fluctuation!!). We all know it feels good to feel good about yourself. Here’s to body confidence and loving what we see when we look back at the mirror!
