Healthy Morning Habits

Gooooood Morning!!!! This is one of my favorite things to say as I’m waking my babies up each and every day! I have gotten so many messages over the years about how people love the way I wake my babies up in a good mood. It is super important to me! It’s the first thing they see or hear and I want to start them off on a positive note and good vibe. My babies aren’t so little anymore, but I cherish each and every morning with them as they have grown into school age kiddos. We love our special time together in the car as I’m lucky enough to get to take them to school. This car time we have some of the best laughs, moments and memories together. They love taking a selfie before drop off together and I love it too! I always make it a point to tell my kids to have the best day, learn lots, how proud I am of them and that I love them! Some mornings can be tough, but let your kids know how special they are to you as they go into a school day, it’s so important!

Through the years, it’s been hard as a mom and owner of two businesses to go to bed late and get up early, but I have made it a priority to feel fresh and love the morning time each day! As I’ve shared before, I love my early morning workouts with my incredible personal trainer, Angela. She brings the best workouts to me at home and I look forward to my early morning workout sessions with her. Many mornings, the girls wake up and join me in the gym. They love to play and show off their gymnastics, while Enzo loves to get steps on the treadmill. My kiddos have grown to love fitness and activities just as much as me and Sal. We instill fun plus fitness and good health into their little minds.

Now, you might be saying to yourself, I am not a morning person. I get it, some days are easier for me than others. Lately, with some BIG projects I have been working on, I have been getting to bed later than normal. Yes, those next mornings are tough to wake up early with a smile on my face. But my advice to you is, treat each morning as a new opportunity. An opportunity to have new beginnings, happiness, goals and a privilege. Remember your why in life, it may be your career, your family, your kiddos, your health, etc, whatever your why, let that be your driving force to wake up in a good mood. As I have grown to be a morning person, I’ve discovered those first 5 minutes are the hardest, but the minute you put your feet on the ground, let the positivity burst through your steps. Wash your face, take that first sip of water, coffee, or tea and dedicate your mindset to having a great day. And remember, some days you’re going to have to “fake it until you make it” and that’s okay! The way you treat your mornings can really set the tone for the day.

My Favorite Tips For Setting The Mood For The Day

  • Allow yourself to have at least 30 minutes phone-free when you wake up. So many times I want to reach for my phone and check messages, emails, etc.. but that instant “noise” in the morning can interfere with your mood for the day. Instead pick up a book or devotional if you enjoy waking up and sitting in bed for a little while to relax.
  • Avoid pressing that snooze button! Pressing that snooze button can quickly turn from five minutes into a half hour. And think about all the things you can do in a half hour. Set your alarm for the time you want to wake up and stick to that first alarm.
  • Get in that workout! Like I’ve already mentioned, my early morning workouts are non-negotiable for me. Studies show that morning workouts help people make healthier choices throughout the day, boost your metabolism and they set the mood for your hormones and body for the day.
  • Journaling is another habit I have recently started and I really enjoy it. Some mornings I immediately start my day with a little gratitude journal entry for the day, it really allows me to have a clear mind for the day. If you are one that enjoys meditation, this is another great habit to start your day on the right foot.
  • Make your bed! Making your bed is shown to improve your mood, increase daily productivity, sets a positive tone for the day and fosters self-discipline.
  • Eat a nutritious well balanced breakfast and take your supplements! Here is my current morning line up.
    • Every morning I drink a protein shake for breakfast. I workout fasted first, and then drink my shake after.
    • 1 SCOOP LEVEL 1 (OR PHORM 1): I use chocolate or vanilla…I’m a plain protein kinda girl. I mix 2 scoops of Opti Greens 50 with 1 scoop of protein powder. I like to make it in one easy shake so I can just slam it and run out the door! I use 8 oz of super cold water, blend together and go!
    • Microfactor Daily Multivitamin
    • 1 scoop of Collagen in my coffee (Make sure you are hitting your protein goal for the day, that is the only way collagen supplements will truly give you the benefits you need!!)
    • Fish Oil
  • Make self-care a priority- wash your face & do your RFA skincare routine! New to RFA Skincare and want your own customized skincare routine? Start by taking our advanced AI Skin Assessment here! On the days you are feeling a little sluggish, those are the days I encourage you to put a little extra swipe of blush on or curl your hair! It will boost your mood!
  • Enjoy that cup of coffee! Even if it’s while you’re getting ready or on your commute, cherish that energizing sips! Here are my go-to coffee orders!
    • I am a simple, healthy coffee girl. At home, I love a cup of black coffee with 1st Phorm Collagen as my creamer. It tastes amazing and is a quick way to get 20g of protein to start the day. It really is the perfect addition to coffee if you want the best of both flavor and health. And my Basic B order at Starbucks is a Grande Shaken Espresso with no sweetener.
    • When it comes to coffee, beware of the sweetened drinks! Some of the seemingly yummy coffee drinks at Starbucks are the equivalent of drinking an entire dessert (and before 8am!). If you need to add a little sweetener to your coffee drink, try mixing it with a flavored collagen like 1st Phorm (comes in multiple flavors and tastes amazing), milk, cream, or sprinkling a little cocoa powder on top. Non dairy and almond or other nut milk works too, but beware of oat milk as that contains more carbs as it’s made from grains, not nuts. If you want to keep it healthy at Starbucks opt for cappuccinos, americanos, macchiatos, and unsweetened lattes over coffee full of flavors, syrups, and sugar.

  • The last thing I want to encourage for a great morning start is getting a good night’s sleep. Read all about my sleep tips here

Let’s be honest, some mornings are harder than others to get all these things done and not feel like I’m running around like a crazy lady. Getting back into a school routine has been a little challenging, but we are getting back into the groove. Tackle each morning with a positive attitude, some good music, laughter and a cup of coffee!

Lastly, on the weekends, enjoy the slower pace and relaxation! As a family we cherish our time together at the farm. The peaceful mornings enjoying the beautiful landscape is a great change of pace to our busy lifestyles!
