Tips for Staying on Track
It’s the most wonderful time of year!… Parties, Family, Sweet Treats and Drinks… If you have been working on your health all year, now is not the time to let things go. I am here to tell you, you can in fact enjoy all of the festivities and still stay on your personal plan!
Remember, it’s alright to say no to eating something. Just because it is there does not mean you need to eat it. Choose to eat things you enjoy!
As we go into this season, the influx of sugar does tax your body and immune system making you more susceptible to illness this time of year. That is why you wake up feeling achy or bloated after a party.
As much as you can, you should stick to your normal routine of eating and movement.
How can we not only survive but also thrive in this time of year?
Some easy tricks to help navigate when there are extra treats around….
- Eat before you leave the house or keep snacks in your bag. This is a great tip year round but I know many of us are guilty of rushing out without eating in this season
- Pack some easy protein in your bag…. 1st Phorm meat sticks or a Power Pro Bar are my favorites and I always have 1-2 in my bag. Chomps or a protein bar help too
- Fill your plate with protein and veggies first! This is a sure way to help fill you up BEFORE you hit the dessert bar. Loading up on protein and fiber from veggies or even fruit will help curb those cravings and you will be more satisfied before its time for dessert
- THE FIRST 3 BITES ARE THE BEST – this one has helped me so so much. The first bites you take of anything are the best… then it all runs together. So get the dessert – have 3 bites and then stop. You will probably be surprised that you don’t NEED more.
- Drinks – we all know this we just don’t follow – have water between each drink. Limit fun sugary drinks to 1-2, knowing they are full of empty calories.
Keep things simple and be mindful of how you feel when out. Eat when hungry, stop when satisfied.
And remember, enjoy this season with family and friends!
