In today’s blog I just want to take a minute to tell everyone out there to take a step back and realize just how naturally and uniquely beautiful you are. You were born with your own unique beauty. You are like no one else…and never forget, that is really special.
No one is perfect. There is no such thing as perfect. No two sides of the face are perfectly symmetrical. Everyone has slight imperfections that make them unique and never forget that these characteristics literally make you, YOU!
In a world full of social media, filters, and photo editing apps it can be really easy to lose sight of our own natural beauty. I see first hand how our selfie-obsessed culture can impact one’s self-esteem. On the daily, I see just how Filters and Facetune which create these flawless-looking photos can contribute to a skewed perception of perceived flaws.
I cannot tell you how many people I have met over the years, although still beautiful, who look completely different in real life than they do on their instagram feed. They use filters and apps to alter their appearance. Then, you have all of these people comparing themselves to an altered appearance or state of reality. That is crazy to think about isn’t it? To think you could be comparing yourself to someone who literally looks nothing like that in real life and more importantly, you judge yourself against it… I say this in the same breath, and I want you to know, that I am guilty too.
As a result, many of my patients feel insecure about the way they look, realizing they are not as attractive as their own filtered images. This will sometimes lead to the feeling of inadequacy, or even be a trigger for developing BDD, depression, and eating disorders.
What is perception drift?
Perception drift is an illusion of the mind in which someone perceives they look different than they actually do in reality.
Do not let your perception of yourself drift because of the comparison game. Remember, it is not about chasing every little divot, wrinkle, or fat pocket. It is about globally looking like the very best version of yourself. I encourage my patients to be careful chasing perfection because it is not attainable. We will never look like the filters. The movie stars are filtered. Injectors are not magicians.
I am in the business of “improvement not perfection.” NO ONE IS PERFECT. No one has a perfect face, no injector can give you perfect results, no product is perfect, and no results are completely predictable.
A great aesthetic provider will take the lead and help you to understand what treatments will best suit you. My goal is always to enhance your natural beauty. To achieve balance of facial features and overall facial harmony. Less is more. We want you looking and feeling natural, rested, and refreshed. Good work should be undetectable.

Moral of the story
Love who you are. Stop comparing yourself to others on social media or for that matter, in real life. Stop chasing perfection. Instead, focus on yourself and embrace and enhance your own natural beauty by focusing on progress.
Make sure you are seeing an Aesthetic provider who is not afraid to tell you “no” when you don’t need something, and is globally assessing your face and beauty before each treatment.
